Many thanks to Greg Schulz, of Schulz Farm for selling two pair of cattle for me! Probably a couple of my best, but he sold them well and I am very grateful.
Now I can finish building that fence around the front of my property. Yep. It’s getting deep out front – grass-wise. Surprised? We DO have a little grass in West Texas. And when it’s not grazed or mowed down, it presents a significant fire threat. If you’ve never seen a grass fire on a hot windy day, count your blessings.
On another note: my heart and prayers go out to the families affected by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami wave. I can’t imagine what all that must be like to deal with, and I hope I never know. Absolutely horrific, terrible, excruciating…are there words to describe the emotions? Probably not.
I don’t have any desire to lose my home in water OR fire, so we’re going to start grazing down the front half of the property. Hence the fence. Which is almost done. Fortunately.
My wife,Lynne and I are grandparents with 10 grand kids 18months to 18 years all love our 5 acres and the built in swimming pool, heated by a wood fired boiler. Lynne and i are just starting to look for beef or dairy cows to raise for our own food. I just read about mini-s and am really impressed. I am not looking to show or sell. what might you have available in 2013? I am sure you do not have any specific animal at this time but maybe just an idea. I will have to complete a fence around my acreage and garden area.

Hi there! Minis are great for small acreages and kids. I am in the process of changing my breeding program so my herd is rather small right now (I did breed primarily moderate-framed Classic Horned Herefords – but I got married last year and now have three step kids, and my focus has – surprise! – changed to small-framed polled miniatures so I don’t have to worry about the kids getting hurt by heavy hooves or the horns) All that is to say I probably won’t have much for sale for a few years. However, you can check out http://www.MHBAonline.org to find breeders in your area and contact the regional director up there. Let me know if you have any questions, though. I love to talk Mini Herefords!
Thanks!
